Off the Field Castlebar club play 2 in New York

Members of the Castlebar Mitchells Football Club, from County Mayo, arrive in New York today, Wednesday. Their first game is Thursday at 4:30 p.m. in Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx. They will play the Mayo team. Their second game will on on this Sunday at 3 p.m., also in Van Cortlandt Park, against Mayo. After both games, there will be a reception in the Lansdowne.

Barnabas FC

Registration for the St. Barnabas Football Club, under 8 and up, including junior, will take place this Sunday, March 12, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Considine Center, St. Barnabas Church, Woodlawn.

Sligo honors for Marren

John Marren, president of the Sligo Football Club of New York, will be the guest of honor at the Sligo Association’s annual St. Patrick’s dinner dance on March 11 at 8 p.m. in Leonard’s of Great Neck.

The Sligo Person of the Year is Raymond Conlon.

Marren is a native of Curry, Co. Sligo and has been involved in the GAA all his life, in Ireland and during his time in London before coming to the U.S. in 1963.

Kilkenny dance

Kilkenny Hurling Club and the Kilkenny Association of New York will host their annual St. Patrick’s dinner dance on March 11 at Green Tree Country Club in New Rochelle.

The guest of honor will be Dick Lyons and the clubman of the year award will go to Kevin Corbett.
