Off the Field Donegal honors for McGrath and Meehan

The Donegal Football Club will celebrate their 51st anniversary with a banquet on April 24 in Leonard’s of Great Neck, 555 Northern Blvd.

A cocktail hour will start at 8 p.m. followed by a full course prime rib dinner and dancing to the music of Homeward Bound. Tickets are $60.

The guest of honor will be Laurence McGrath of Pettigo, Co. Donegal. As junior team manager, McGrath led the juniors to victory in 1998.

The 1999 Campbell-Houlihan Award will go to Mike Meehan of Donegal Town. He is a past president of the football club, former journal chairman, recording secretary and past president of the Donegal Association. He was also the 1980 guest of honor.

Jersey Hurling Club update

Celtic’s golf tournament

The New York Celtics Football Club will hold its second annual Jimmy O’Sullivan Memorial Golf Tournament on May 3 at Split Rock Golf Course. Tee-off will be at noon, shotgun start.

D.C. 7-a-side

The Washington, D.C., Gaels, hosts of the 1998 GAA National Championships, welcome all spectators and players to the Fifth Annual 7-a-Side Tournament on Saturday, April 24. Kick off is at 10 a.m. Admission is free to spectators. The cost to compete for a team of 10 is $100.
