Also, there will be a referees’ meeting on Thursday, March 11, at 7 p.m. at the Lansdowne.
St. Barnabas GFC
St. Barnabas Gaelic Football Club will accept registrations for age groups Under 8 and older for the 1999 season on Sunday, March 14, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Considine Center at St. Barnabas Church. Junior team training will commence shortly. New players are welcome.
Kilkenny Celebration
The Kilkenny Association of New York and the Kilkenny Hurling Club of New York host the Kilkenny St. Patrick’s Day festival dance on March 13 in the Greentree Country Club, 538 Davenport Ave., New Rochelle. The Lansdowne Rugby Football Club will hold their third annual St. Patrick’s Day Rugby Tournament on Saturday, March 13, at Van Cortlandt Park, at 251st Street in the Bronx. The last two years have seen as many as 25 teams New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Massachusetts, competing in Premiere, Club and Social brackets. The tournament begins at 9 a.m. and runs until mid-afternoon, with the nearby Lansdowne Bar hosting the traditional post-game socializing. A motion submitted by Tyrone GFC asking the Philadelphia Divisional Board to support Monaghan man, Sean McCague, in his bid for the presidency of the Gaelic Athletic Association was passed by a large majority at the Philadelphia Divisional Board Convention held on Feb. 7 in the Commodore Barry Irish Center. With only a mediocre attendance, the following board was elected: Brendan Lotty, (chairman), Robert Mc Hugh (vice chairman), Sheila Shovlin (secretary), Patsy Duddy (treasurer), John McDaid (registrar), Paul McCarthy (PRO).
