Off the Field Leitrim F.C. dinner dance

January 26-February 1, 2000 The annual Leitrim dinner dance will be held on Jan. 29 at M’stro’s, Morris Park. Noel Heron is guest of honor, (formerly from Drumshanbo and local Allen Gaels star). Pat Murray, a native of Aughnasheelin, will receive the Joe McInerney Memorial Award. John (Cookie) Meehan will receive the player of the year award. Kathleen Hickey is the ladies top player for the year.

New women’s football team

The Donegal Gaelic Football Club is forming a women’s team. Anyone interested in playing or helping out should call Damien at (718) 994-1793 or Catherine at (718) 994-9400.

Celtic Minor Football Club

At the New York Celtic minor football club’s annual general meeting on Sunday last, the following officers were elected: President, Eugene McArdle; vicepresident, Tommy Traynor; recording secretary, Mary Tierney; treasurer, Mary Cox; corresponding secretary, Treasa Goodwin Smyth; sergeant at arms, Aiden Traynor; minor board delegates, Doney O’Sullivan and Mary McKeon; alternates, Eugene McArdle and Tommy Traynor.

The New York Celtic managers for 2000 are as follows: Under 10s and 12s, Tommy Traynor, Mike O’Sullivan, Conny Molloy, Frank Glennon and Kieran Patton; Under 12s and under 14s, Eugene McArdle, John Cox, Patsy Clarke and Treasa Goodwin Smyth.

The next club meeting will be on Feb. 6 at 4 p.m. in Molloy’s Bar, 5782 Moshula Ave., in Riverdale, the Bronx. Everybody welcome, players, new players and parents.

Roscommon dinner dance

Roscommon Football Club will hold their annual dinner dance on Feb. 5 at the Polish Center, 92 Waverly St., Yonkers. Music will be provided by Gerry Finlay and the Cara Band. Guest of honor will be Jimmy Naughton. Other award honorees on the night will be; Joe Naughton (Senior Player of the Year), Enda Corr (Junior Player of the Year), Gerry Kelly (Club Person of the Year). Kerry victory dance

Kerry will hold a double victory dance on Feb. 6 in the Astoria Manor, 25-22 Astoria Blvd., Queens. Tickets cost $70.

Music will be provided by the Ritchie O’Shea Band. The cocktail hour will begin at 3:30 p.m. There will also be a souvenir commemorative journal.

Guest of Honor is the great Paddy Kearney (Cloghane). The senior players of the year are Paddy O Connor (Faha) and Bingo O’Driscoll (Upper Camp). Louis Holland (Bantry, Co. Cork) is Clubman of the Year.

Also at the dance will be a chance to meet some of the Kerry county players. John Crowley, who was captain on the East Kerry team, and his team mate Seamus Moynihan, will present the Kerry County Final Moynihan Cup. Additional players attending will be Dara O Cinnéide and John McGlynn.

Kerry celebrations in Boston

The Kerry Football Club, in Boston, will hold its banquet of the century on Feb. 12 in Florian Hall, Hallet Street, Dorchester.Guests will include Mick O’Connell, Matt Connor from Offaly, and Padraig Kennelly from Kerry’s Eye newspaper.

The guest of honor will be Joe Driscoll of Connecticut, the Clubman of the Year Award will be presented to Joe Murphy from Sneem and the Player of the Year Award will go to Mark O’Brien, Laois.

A family-style roast beef dinner will be served at 8 p.m. There will be cocktails for an hour beforehand. Dancing until 1 a.m. to the music of Noel Henry’s Band. Door prizes include one round-trip ticket to Ireland from Evergreen Travel, and a set of pictures of Kerry All-Ireland winning teams of the century. Tickets cost $40.

GAA to honor Dooley

New Jersey Hurling Club

Barnabas GFC AGM

The St. Barnabas Gaelic Football Club will hold their annual meeting in the Aquaduct Bar, on Feb. 13 at 2 p.m.
