Off the Field New York LGAA to meet

The New York Ladies GAA will hold their Annual General Meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 19, in the Riverdale Steakhouse. All clubs must attend.

The outgoing officers are President, Terry Connaughton; Vice President, Anne Holland; Treasurer, Mary Toolan; Secretary, Caroline Conway; Asst. Secretary, Teresa O’Malley; PRO, Marie Flood; Asst. PRO, Mairead Casey; Registrar, Kathleen Rowland; Games Coordinator, Marie Curran; Custodian, Philip Sheridan; Irish Language Officer:, Mary Kearney Cooney; Development Officer, Anne Holland.

On Sunday, Feb. 7, the LGAA will hold their Annual Rules Convention in the Riverdale Steakhouse.

Shamrocks’ Benefit

A pub trivia night, to benefit the injured soccer players’ fund and Shamrock’s soccer players, will take place Jan. 22, at 8 p.m., in J. J. Gilligan’s, 46th Street, in Sunnyside, Queens. The GAA Minor Board’s 29th Annual Awards Banquet will be held on Saturday evening, Jan. 23, at the Polish Center, 92 Waverly St., Yonkers. Guests of honor on this festive occasion will be two of New York’s most dedicated Gaels, Pete Jones ( St. Joseph’s F.C.) and Rita Concannon (Rangers F.C). The coveted James O’Sullivan Award will be presented to Noel O’Connell. All 1998 divisional champions, players of the year, 1998 All Stars, scholarship winners will be honored. The MC for the evening is Tommy Smyth of ESPN TV fame. A special souvenir journal will be published. St. Barnabas GFC

The St. Barnabas Gaelic Football Club will hold its annual general meeting on Sunday, Jan. 24, at 2:30 p.m. at the Aquaduct North bar on Katonah Avenue, the Bronx. Leitrim Dance

GAA Banquet

The GAA of greater New York will hold its 65th annual banquet on Feb. 13 at the Surf Club, 280 Davenport Avenue, in New Rochelle. Guest of honor will be Terry Connaughton. Cocktail hour will start at 8 p.m., followed by a full dinner. Music will be provided by Brogue. Tickets cost $65. The banquet program is open to advertisers at $100 per page and $200 per gold page. Lansdowne Rugby

The Lansdowne Rugby Football Club will hold their third annual St. Patrick’s Day Rugby Tournament on Saturday, March 13, at Van Cortlandt Park, at 251st Street, in the Bronx.

The last two years have seen as many as 25 teams New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Massachusetts, competing in Premiere, Club and Social brackets. The tournament begins at 9 a.m. and runs until mid-afternoon, with the nearby Lansdowne Bar hosting the traditional post-game socializing.
