One of the youngest recipients on the night was Olivia McKenna who was presented with a check for $1,000, a gift from the Brendan Keane Memorial Grammar School Scholarship Fund.
The late Brendan Keane was a co-founder of the EGS.
Each grant had a sponsoring business and the 22 distributed were all part of the guild’s Scholarships, Philanthropic & Charity Support Program.
“The members and officers of the Emerald Guild Society are delighted to provide the financial and moral support of the organization to the chosen scholarship candidates, charitable foundations and community organizations,” said society president, Garrett Doyle.
“We believe that the award of these grants represents a tangible commitment of the organization to the well-being and development of our community,” said Doyle.
The Emerald Guild Society is an association of Irish and Irish-American Building Managers who are, according to the society, “bonded by a common heritage and shared career commitments in New York’s property management industry.”
The society, founded in 1992, has worked to augment the informal
network of building managers and superintendents of Irish ancestry that had existed for many years in New York City.
At the consulate gathering three college grants of $3,000 each were presented along with three high school grants of $1,500 each. Seven grammar school grants of $1,000 were also presented, including the one to Olivia McKenna.
The Louise Daggett Fund was the recipient of $30,000 while grants of $1,000 each were presented to the Aisling Irish Center in Yonkers, the New York Irish Center, Long Island City, the Emerald Isle Immigration Center in Queens, Project Irish Children, HOPe Charity of Woodlawn Station, NY, the GAA Minor Board, Ecuador Quilt of Wayne, New Jersey, and the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation.
