By Staff Reporter

O’Shaughnessy brings more than 29 years of experience in the hospitality and travel industry to this position.
“I’m thrilled to be taking on this new challenge in my career at Accor,” commented O’Shaughnessy. “My vision for ABL is continued growth through expansion, especially within Canada and Mexico, which are newer markets for Accor. With 10 Accor properties already operating or under development in these areas and a significant new franchise agreement, which gives top Canadian hotel company Realstar exclusive rights to open key Accor brands throughout Canada, we’re well on our way to accomplishing this goal.”
Accor’s Business and Leisure Division in North America is comprised of Sofitel, Novotel, and Ibis. Sofitel, the luxury brand of Accor hotels, has 11 properties in the U.S. and Canada. Sofitel Canc_n is scheduled to open in the Fall of 2004, marking the brand’s expansion into Mexico. Accor will also enhance its presence in Mexico with the addition of two new Ibis properties, currently under development. Further building the company’s North America portfolio, Accor will be opening several Novotel, Motel 6 and Studio 6 properties throughout Canada in the near future.
O’Shaughnessy joined Accor in 1989 as a vice president of Motel 6 and assisted the Chief Executive Officer with special projects. In 1991, he became assistant to the executive vice president of operations and was promoted to senior vice president in 1993 to launch and oversee programs to increase the brand’s overall quality and service. Most notably, O’Shaughnessy helped develop new standards of quality for all Motel 6 properties and spearheaded a guest relations department that focused on ways to improve customer service.
Born in County Limerick, Ireland, O’Shaughnessy is a graduate of the College of Hotel Management in Shannon, Ireland. He lives with his wife and three children in Dallas, Texas.
