O’Sullivan was two down to Carl Mason with three holes to play, but he three-putted the 18th green to hand the championship to Mason, who had to get up and down out of a bunker. This seesaw finale saw the lead change hands six times.
“I thought I had a great chance when I pegged him back at 16 and 17, but then I handed it to him by hitting a poor wedge into the final green,” O’Sullivan said.
O’Sullivan advanced to the finals with a 1-up victory over Delroy Cambridge. The path was paved with victories over Eddie Polland, 2 and 1, in the first round, John Chillas, 3 and 2, in the second round, and Jim Rhodes, 3 and 2, in the quarterfinals.

EUROPEAN TOUR
Darren Clarke continued his hot play with a fifth-place tie in the Linde German Masters at Gut Larchenhof. His second-round 71 kept him from applying more pressure to eventual medallist K.J. Choi. Clarke was 20 under par for the event at 268 (65-71-65-67), while Choi finished at 262.
The resurrected Paul McGinley was one of 10 men in the 19th slot at 274 (67-72-69-66). Graeme McDowell tied for 64th place at 284 (70-70-69-75). Padraig Harrington continues to struggle. He missed the cut by a stroke, shooting 141 (73-68). Damien McGrane also came in at that number with rounds of 71 and 70. Peter Lawrie, 145 (71-74), also had the weekend off.

CHAMPIONS TOUR
Des Smyth stood just three strokes off the lead after the first round of the SAS Championship at Prestonwood Country Club in Cary, N.C. but played the next two rounds just one stroke under par. He tied for 21st place at 211 (68-71-72) and earned $19,944. D.A. Weibring walked off with the trophy after shooting 203.

CHALLENGE TOUR
Stephen Browne shared 40th place in the Telia Grand Prix at Ljunghusens Golf Club in Sweden. He was four over par for the tournament at 288 (73-70-70-75). The 276 fired by Euan Little stood up for medallist honors.
