Senior Hurling
Westmeath vs. Waterford
The New York GAA opens its big day with a senior hurling match for the early risers. Westmeath will be favored to knock off a Waterford team that will be trying to replace Phillip Wickham and Richie Purcell. Goalkeeper Ian Duggan is doubtful through injury, so Waterford will be up against it. Stuart Barry and New York panelist Roy Henley will lead the Waterford effort. Westmeath should be solid with Peter Dalton, Martin Finn, Brian McCabe and sharp shooter Jonathan O’Callaghan.

First Round
New York vs. Sligo
This is the big one. New York will certainly go into this match as heavy underdogs. Sligo have left nothing to chance, knowing they are fully expected to win.
New York have had little match practice and looked bad recently against Boston. But manager Paddy Kearney says that he learned some valuable lessons in that match. The home side have plenty of talent at their disposal. On Sunday we’ll just have to see if they can put all together for one big effort.

St. Barnabas vs. Down
A tough act to follow, but someone has to do it. Barnabas were impressive in their season opener, downing Tyrone handily. Tom Nolan, Ronan Garvey and Dave O’Halloran led a good team effort and Down will have to contend with them. Down fell to Derry in their opener in which their fitness became an issue as the match wore on.
Collie Mathers is the leader on this team ably backed by Martin McGivern and Colm Farrell. Barnabas are the form team and I think they will add another victory Sunday evening.
