Prison release my be near for ‘Border Fox’

Dessie O’Hare, 42, known as the “Border Fox,” is a member of the Irish National Liberation Army. He is the last member of the organization north and south of the border still in prison who was charged with crimes before the 1998 Good Friday peace agreement.
He will now be held in Grove section of Castlerea, where prisoners live in houses within the prison prior to release.
O’Hare was jailed for kidnapping dentist John O’Grady in Cabinteely, Co. Dublin, in October 1987.
He had been a member of the Provisional IRA and later joined the INLA. The INLA had split from the Official IRA in 1974 and became infamous for its bloody internal feuds and violence. It murdered Airey Neave, Conservative spokesman on Northern Ireland and a close friend of former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, when it blew up his car in 1979 as he drove out of the House of Commons underground parking lot.
