“She has been strident and on a crusade to have women become priests and she has been totally disrespectful to the Church,” said Patrick Reilly, the founder and president of the Cardinal Newman Society.
The group has called on U.S. Catholic universities and colleges to only allow strict adherents to church teachings to be allowed to speak on campus or receive awards.
“We are contacting a good number of pro-life groups in the Philadelphia area to make sure they are aware of her appearance at Villanova,” said Reilly in an interview.
When it was pointed out to him that President McAleese has not been an outspoken advocate on abortion, he said, “Oh yeah — she’s been pretty good on that — I just mean we’ll get lots of good Catholics out and make them aware of her inappropriate public disrespect for Church teaching.”
