Radio Free Eireann is making a return to New York-based WBAI this weekend.
The controversial show, which is frequently critical of the direction of the political process in Northern Ireland, was sidelined in recent weeks as a power struggle developed for control of the station and its owner, the Pacifica Radio Foundation.
The struggle for control led to a number of staff dismissals and shows being iced, but the issues were resolved this week with both the sidelined shows returning to the air and the dismissed staff members being offered their jobs back.
“We stormed the Bastille at 120 Wall Street,” said RFE co-presenter John McDonagh in reference to the WBAI studio in lower Manhattan. “Our show is back in business and we anticipate a number of upcoming specials.”
RFE’s usual broadcasting time is 1:30 p.m. on Saturdays, 99.5 on the FM dial.
