The fundraiser, on Sunday October 18, will run from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. Organizers are intent on making its positive effects run a lot longer than just a few hours, however.
The fundraiser will directly benefit Shamus Maunsell, who is 41, married to Jennifer, and is father of three young children.
Shamus has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. Hannah, his six-year-old daughter, was born with Cystic Fibrosis and requires a specialized care.
Shamus and Hannah are the son and grand-daughter of Jim and Tena Maunsell, both natives of County Kerry.
The National League winning New York football team of the 1960s, team mates of Jimmy Maunsell, will be at the Kerry Hall the night of the fundraiser, as will others who have helped organize the fundraiser.
Sonny Kenna, Tom Furlong, Paddy Cummins, Pat Kennedy, Ken Finn, Seamus Nugent, Joe Wrafter, Peter Nolan, John Riordan, Pat Joe Neville, Martin Furlong, Paddy Kearney, PJ Keaveney, Yvonne Furlong, Niall Donnelly, Fiona Kearney, Tom Furlong Junior, Caron Furlong, MaryAnn Neville, and Eileen O’Flaherty, are but some of those who have pledged help.
“There has been tremendous support from various musicians who will be donating there time for this event,” said Yvonne Furlong.
“The evening affords us a two fold benefit that of helping and supporting a deserving family in their time of need and that of giving everyone the opportunity to renew old friendships and relieve memories from Gaelic Park and the Red Mill in the good old days,” she said.
Details of the fundraiser are available from Tom and Yvonne Furlong at (518)622-9896, or Sonny Kenna at (914)693-7233.
If unable to attend the event, supporters can send donations to Shamus Maunsell c/o Sonny Kenna, 18 Florence Avenue, Dobbs Ferry, NY 10522.
