Republic win Nations opener

The Republic of Ireland beat Wales Tuesday evening at Dublin’s Aviva Stadium with a convincing 3-0 win in the opening game of the inaugural Nations Cup, which also involves Northern Ireland and Scotland. The scorers were Darron Gibson (60th minute), Damien Duff (67th) and Keith Fahey (83rd). Scotland will play Northern Ireland on Wednesday. The other fixtures in the tournament are Ireland vs Northern Ireland (May 24); Wales vs. Scotland (May 25); Wales vs. Northern Ireland, May 27; Ireland vs. Scotland, May 29.
