Roads less traveled

Tourism jargon aside, on a recent visit to Ireland I took great pleasure driving on roads less traveled, spending seven of my 10 days there taking a closer look at places around the island often absent from tour itineraries. From Dublin to Dingle and Carlingford to Carrick-on-Shannon, here are some places I found worth exploring.

DUBLIN
OK, so this bustling capital city isn’t one of Ireland’s aforementioned out-of-the-way places, but arriving from the U.S. you’ve got to start any excursion at either Shannon or Dublin, and the latter was my choice.
