Rockland, Donegal women advance to final

February 16, 2011

By Staff Reporter

Rockland 1-9, Monaghan 1-8

The day’s second Peter Connaughton Cup semifinal was a neck-and-neck affair with the teams battling to the final whistle before Rockland prevailed, thus earning a spot in the final against Donegal.

The Monagahn women were unluckly not to have won, having enjoyed the greater time of possession. But they were unable to convert many of their shots into scores despite some great plays from Anita McKenna and Tracey Noone.

For their part, Rockland showed they have the players to bring home the silverware. And if Jenny Kirby and Anne Marie O’Malley remain in top form and Jonnie Foley and Sharon Aiello play well again, they will prove difficult to beat.

Rockland player of the game: Jonnie Foley. Monaghan: Tracey Noone.

Rockland scorers: Jenny Kirby 0-4, Anne Marie O’Malley 1-3, Sharon Aiello 0-2.

The first Peter Connaughton semi was a one-sided affair with the Donegal women showing no mercy as Amanda Lennon tallied an impressive 2-7.

Donegal player of the game: Amanda Casey. Fermanagh: Ger Lavery.

Donegal scorers: Amanda Lennon 2-7, Ashling Whelan 1-1, Mags Dineen 0-4, Amanda C’sy 0-1, Sally Anne Boyle 1-0.
