After a tight first half in their Long Island First Division game against Bosynak, the Rovers scored three superb second-half goals to kill off their Eastern European opponents by a 4-0 scoreline.
Man of the match Stuart Duffin opened Rovers account after 20 minutes when he coolly beat the Bosynak keeper to rattle the visitors net. Just before halftime, Bosynak were unlucky not to equalize when a rasping drive from 20 yards out cannoned off the Rovers’ crossbar. In the second half, the hard-working Damien Dunleavy and Anton Diver set up the lethal Rovers forward line for three great goals from Tony O Donnell, Jessy van Sam and Duffin again. Coach Hopper was delighted with the effort as his squad was missing regular personnel through injury. He is hopeful that he will have all his players healthy for the crunch game against Oceanside in two weeks time.
In Reserve football, Eddie Beja is fast becoming a cult hero with the Rovers supporters. His touches in the first half were a sight to behold, and he capped another fine performance with the winning goal twenty minutes into the game. Rovers remain on top of the table, and can thank the fine performances from Ballantine, Dempsey, Gibson, Daly and Kenny in ensuring another vital three points.
