DUBLIN — The top four places in rugby’s All-Ireland League were confirmed last weekend with Cork Constitution taking on Young Munster and Galwegians meeting Dungannon in Saturday’s semifinals.
Constitution were already assured of a semifinal at home, but their 33-31 victory put paid to Ballymena’s slim chances of qualifying for the playoffs, while Young Munster made sure of their place with a convincing 49-18 victory over Belfast Harlequins at Clifford Park.
A late Eric Elwood penalty gave Galwegians a narrow 19-18 victory against Buccaneers as well as precious home advantage in the semifinals, where they’ll come up against Dungannon, who finished strongly to beat Garryowen 39-34.
DLSP’s 30-21 win over Lansdowne ensured them of Div. One survival for another season, but Old Crescent, despite beating Shannon 31-24 at Thomond Park, and Belfast Harlequins are both relegated.
