Ryanair, Rianta feud continues

Some airport charges were recently increased by 500 percent, according to Ryanair, which says that it expects Aer Rianta to be broken up shortly.
A Ryanair spokesperson said that the price hikes had been referred by the airline to the Department of Transport, the Monopolies Commission and the Director of Competition.
The charges related to some identification cards: issuing a permanent ID shot up by 100pc from euro 12.50 to euro 25, while a temporary ID will now cost 500 percent more following a rise from euro 2.50 to euro 15.
Other charges, included the cost of having the fire brigade on stand-by during takeoffs and landings, have risen from euro 80 to euro 215 and the price of a spillage clean up is now euro 500, not euro 126.97.
“Aer Rianta is using the last days of its monopoly to impose additional monopoly charges on its customers, while continuing to exempt its own staff, its VIP friends and itself,” a Ryanair spokesman said. “These charges are discriminatory.”
