Billy Nolan got the sack and Kevin McPartland was resigned to elfdom as the Shamrock Soccer Club held its annual kids Christmas party Sunday at J.J. Gilligan’s. Shamrock players and supporters — on a break from the normal Sunday afternoon activities — came along bearing gifts for needy children. Lisa, Aoife and Eamonn Colman have worked together with the club for many years now on this most worthy event and the growing popularity lends testimony that their efforts are both notable and worthwhile. Later on Miley Gilligan commented on the warmth of the event.
On Saturday night the Rocks received their league winning trophies from last season at a presentation also held at Gilligan’s. The first and second teams won their respective divisions and if trophies were awarded for endeavor the third string would surely have made the podium also. A special presentation of a framed jersey was made to Steve Doran of Galasso Trucking Inc., the jersey sponsors and indeed one of the club’s greatest supporters over the years.
The Shamrocks enter the winter break in third spot, a point behind the leaders. The second team are in a similar position with the third string still in with a shout of minor honors.
