Sinead’s tribute rocks the royals

February 16, 2011

Sinead wrote “Brigidine Diana” six years ago, and it was slated to be part of an all-star Diana tribute album. But the song, which pays tribute to Diana’s sons, William and Harry, and scorns the drippy Elton John moaner “Candle in the Wind,” infuriated the royals. They insisted that the song be deleted, so, in its place, Sinead substituted “Make Me a Channel of Your Peace.”
Fast forward to 2003, and the irrepressible O’Connor can’t resist digging up the song for her last hurrah. Sort of a farewell stirring of the pot, so to speak. Gee — we’ll miss that even more than her music. But we suspect that this retirement thing is going to get old quickly. After all, Sinead declared herself celibate a few years back — and now she’s knitting baby booties.
