I hung up my high heels and put on a beautiful pair of ski boots for the week. Ten friends and I left for Andorra on Dec. 28, for a week of snow, slopes, goggles, bruises, hot whiskeys and a lot of fun! We flew into Barcelona airport and then had to take an extremely long bus journey up the mountains to Arinsal, Andorra where
we were to spend a week enjoying the ski slopes and all the town had to offer.
I’d love to take a helicopter next time, as the four hours on a bus nearly killed me! The worst part was when our tour guide decided to play the movie “Transformers” during the journey at full volume. (What a terrible movie!)
It was my first time in Andorra. The scenery was amazing as we traveled up the winding roads — we were all exhausted but so excited.
We settled into our beautiful hotel which was located at the bottom of the piste. The gondola was steps from our hotel. We stayed out a little late our first night, but were still up bright and early the following morning for ski school. What had I gotten myself into? Six days of non-stop skiing and partying!
We had booked 15 hours of ski lessons, something I needed badly. I hadn’t been skiing since my last visit to upstate New York ten months earlier — and I am just barely intermediate at skiing.
Five of my friends were in the same instruction group, so I knew we’d have a blast while making out way down the mountains under the watchful eye of Dean, our South African ski instructor. He probably didn’t know what he was about to get himself into either, trying to improve our skiing. Winter Olympics 2012 — here I come!
We learned so much in our 3 hours lessons each day and then rewarded ourselves with a hot whiskey half way up the mountain.
