Barnabas made better use of their chances and that was the difference. Sean Carbin and Terrence Flynn led Barnabas to a 0-5 to 0-1 first half lead. St. Joe’s had plenty of early chances, but too many wasted opportunities left the Jersey boys in the hole.
Monaghan senior midfielder Ruari O’Neill gave St. Joseph’s plenty of possession as he and Stephen Keating led New Jersey’s second-half comeback effort. Barnabas replied with some good work from Ciaran Moyles and Terrence Flynn, extending their advantage to 0-7 to 0-2 on two Darren Meany points.
St. Joseph’s keeper, Chris Clarke, pulled off a couple of great saves to keep Barnabas from pulling too far ahead. St. Joseph’s tried to close the gap, but manager Dan Hannon’s men dug deep and at the end of the day, St. Barnabas Captain Sean Carbin hoisted the Cup for the U-21 Champions.
