DUBLIN — The summer sales helped bring inflation down to 1.2 percent for the year to the end of July, according to figures released by the Central Statistics Office.
The 1 percent drop in inflation on the same period last year and strong growth in the economy has been welcomed by Government Chief Whip Seamus Brennan.
"The recent household budget survey indicated record numbers in work and unemployment at a 20-year low, evidence that we are continuing to translate strong growth into jobs.
"Strong public finances, moderate inflation and monetary stability have created the positive economic conditions we now enjoy," Brennan said.
Inflation dropped 0.4 percent in July with summer sale prices for clothing and footwear down 9.7 percent, and lower prices for household goods and food.
