The U2 front man’s visage will be rendered in oils by 87-year-old Dublin-born artist Louis le Brocquy. The painting, which is to be sponsored by Irish Life and Permanent, will be a formal portrait — one for the ages — though we’d bet the farm that Bono wears his trademark goggles.
In more Bono news, we hear that while he and Ali were in town last week to pick up his Person of the Year award from the Grammy-sponsored Musicares foundation, they did a little shopping. The couple snapped up a $14.5 million, two-bedroom apartment in the vicinity of Central Park West, which means that they’ll be within sugar-borrowing distance from Yoko Ono, Larry Mullen Jr. and Liam Neeson. And it won’t be like he was the only rocker in the neighborhood with a cool 80s-era monicker — he’ll probably bump into Sting at the deli.
