Tax break for artists scrutinized

Thanks to a long running tax program, international artists have long taken haven in Ireland and not had to pay taxes for income from their work, so long as it demonstrates artistic or cultural merit.
However, as a result of recent pressure from the European Union, the Irish government is setting up a task force to look into the program.
For example, a Briton can buy a home in Ireland and, so long as he spends fewer than 90 days in the UK, can claim “artistic tax exemption,” that leaves him not responsible for royalties from any albums, books or artwork he produces and sells.
