The big payout

Bupa lost on all grounds of its action to stop the government’s “Risk Equalization Scheme.” The firm with 400,000 policyholders or just under 20 percent of the market said before the judgment it would have to leave the Irish market if the scheme was upheld.
The company’s board will be considering the judgment delivered last Friday before considering an appeal, mindful that liabilities are already mounting under the scheme introduced last January but with payments put on hold pending last week’s High Court ruling.
