The Black & The Green Honoree: Fr. Joseph P. Parkes, S.J.

Fr. Parkes taught at the Ateneo de Manila High School and College in the Philippines, served as Business Manager and Associate Editor of AMERICA Magazine, President of St. Peter’s Prep and Fordham Prep, Executive Assistant to the Provincial and then Provincial of the New York Province of the Society of Jesus. In the latter role he helped found Loyola Jesuit College in Abuja, Nigeria, now one of the most distinguished high schools in Africa.
Fr. Parkes currently serves as Chairman of the New York City Campaign Finance Board, Vice-Chairman of the Board of Trustees of St. Peter’s College, member of the Board of Trustees of Fordham University, member of the board of the New York Rowing Association and Chair of the Presidents’ Council of the 24 Cristo Rey high schools throughout the United States, which provide a college preparatory education for inner-city students from low-income families, made possible by a unique Corporate Work Study Program.
