The show, which has won rave reviews in Ireland and earned Hickey a Best Actor nomination at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, will begin previews on March 8, and open on March 17 for a limited run.
The play was written by playwright, poet and novelist Tom Mac Intyre and centers on John-Joe Concannon, a physically decrepit but verbally dexterous widower. Concannon’s obsession with his teenage daughter’s supposed pregnancy highlights his alienation from the discombobulating facets of modern Ireland. The play swings between tragedy and comedy, and the Irish Times described Hickey’s performance in the title role as one of “rare virtuosity.”
