The lesser of two evils

Tiny Bermuda, it seems, might be a bigger target than Ireland given the decision of one American company, Accenture, to move its headquarters from the mid-Atlantic island to Ireland.
“We have become concerned that the ongoing criticism of companies that are incorporated in Bermuda has raised questions that we need to address,” Accenture spokesman, Jim McAvoy, said.
The Irish Times reported chairman and chief executive William Green as saying that the move would provide “economic benefits” and help ensure Accenture’s competitiveness.
“A member of the European Union, Ireland offers a sophisticated, well-developed corporate, legal and regulatory environment. In addition, Ireland offers a stable political and economic environment and has the financial and legal infrastructure to meet Accenture’s needs, both today and in the future,” said Green in a statement that will warms the worried heart of an Irish government deeply concerned over any lessening of Ireland’s attractiveness to U.S. companies.
