Yes, you read that right, and no, we haven’t been nipping at the cooking sherry. In a poll conducted by Social and Personal magazine, former boy band singer and professional stud muffin Ronan Keating was named the absolute sexiest man in the whole country. A country, we feel compelled to point out, that has given the world such universally acclaimed hunks as Pierce Brosnan, Liam Neeson, Gabriel Byrne, Colin Farrell . . . need we go on?
Following close on Ronan’s heels was wee Daniel O’Donnell. The Donegal crooner was named Sex Bomb of All Time by the judging panel, which included model Karla Elliott (ex-wife of Def Leopard front man Joe Elliott), model Vivienne Connolly and the taoiseach’s estranged wife, Miriam Ahern.
In accepting his award, Ronan said, “I’m very honored to accept this prestigious award.” Of the accolade, he said, “I’m delighted to be Ireland’s Sexiest Man.” He probably felt he got robbed last year, when top honors went to the only “Y”-chromosome-bearing member of the Corrs, guitarist Jim Corr.
