Timlin bros. to share card

Declan, the elder of the two, will attempt to improve his record to 3-0 against the unknown James Steele, while John will make his pro debut against an opponent to be named on the card at the Atlantic Oceana restaurant (1029 Brighton Beach Ave.). Both bouts are scheduled for four rounds.
In an interview last Saturday, Declan Timlin said both he and his brother were ready to rock and roll.
“I’m in pretty great shape,” the Queens resident declared. “It’s a four rounder, but I hope to be knocking him out in two.”
Declan will be wading in the dark, though. He has hardly any information on his opponent, of whom there’s precious little data on boxing Web sites.
“All I know is that he’s about 6-foot-5 and 250 pounds,” he said.
That will give Steele a four-inch height advantage and some 20 pounds on the 6-foot-1 Irishman, who nonetheless shrugged off the challenge.
“I’m always being given guys 6-5 or something,” he remarked.
The 29-year-old carpenter is a late bloomer. A former tough man competitor, he turned pro last January without an amateur career.
Declan knocked out Vinny Donatelli, a 39-year-old Maine fighter on the comeback trail, in the first round of his debut match in Lewiston, Maine, and in his second contest in the same city, needed just two rounds to stop Joe Rodel last April.
An admitted slugger, Declan concedes that brother John, who’s 24 and has an amateur career behind him, is the better-equipped boxer.
“He’ll be a better technical fighter than me since he boxed as an amateur,” Declan said.
At 6-foot-3, 230 pounds, John Timlin, who has competed in tough men events as well and served as a sparring partner for his brother, is also the bigger man.
Both brothers train at Gleason’s Gym, under the watchful eye of Orlando Carrasquillo, a 21-year coaching veteran with names such as former world champions Mark Breland, Junior Jones and Pernell “Sweetpea” Whitaker on his resume.
