The job went to Timoney’s old boss in the NYPD, Boston-native Bill Bratton. Timoney, however, is not dwelling on the latest twist in his eventful policing career.
“I had very mixed emotions about the whole thing. It’s no problem, no big deal,” Timoney said last week.
“Bratton and I are best friends and he’s a great choice for the job. My job is where I am right now,” Timoney said in reference to his current position as chief executive officer at the Manhattan-based private security firm, Beau Dietl & Associates.
One thing that did irk Timoney was criticism, some of it in the press, that was apparently based on his Irishness.
“There was a whiff of anti-Irishness,” he said. “That’s maybe the first time I’ve experienced it since coming to America. I heard there were people mimicking my accent. L.A.’s a very waspy town.”
