Timoney quits as Miami top cop

February 17, 2011

By Staff Reporter

The decision comes the same day newly elected mayor, Tom_s Regalado, who had pledged to remove Timoney from the position, was sworn in at an inauguration ceremony, the Miami Herald reported.
The new chief will be named next week, but Timoney will remain with the city through the end of the year to help with the transition, the paper reported city officials as stating.
Timoney is the former Philadelphia police chief and prior to that was one of the most senior officers in the NYPD.
