DUBLIN — Ulster pulled off the most famous Irish victory in the history of rugby’s European Cup when they defeated former champions Toulouse of France in Belfast last Friday to qualify for the semifinal.
It finished 15-13 as Ulster produced an inspired performance against one of the favorites for the cup. Leading by 9-0 at the interval, they moved into a 15-3 and held on for victory in a tension-packed finish.
They now meet the current French champions, Stade Francais, in the last four in the early January, but once again they have been given a home draw.
Munster, meanwhile, couldn’t make it an Irish double, when they lost their quarterfinal by 23-9 to another French side, Colomiers. Although they had the disadvantage of meeting Colomiers in France, Munster were a major disappointment in a game which they never looked like winning.
