DUBLIN — After the highest annual increase on record, the number of unemployed has fallen to 7.8 percent compared to 10.3 percent a year ago, according to figures from the Central Statistics Office.
The quarterly national household survey, which replaces the labor force survey, shows that unemployment fell by 32,000 to 126,600 in the year to April 1998.
Over the same period 95,000 more people got jobs with the services sector accounting for almost two-thirds of the employment growth.
