Westbrooks records double-double in Colby hoops win

He hit 9 of 14 field goal attempts, including 4 of 6 from long range. He also converted one of two free throws. Westbrooks was also the game’s high rebounder with 11, and he assisted on four buckets for good measure. Colby (4-7) then got run over by undefeated Grinnell, 116-77. Westbrooks was held to 12 points (6-for-10 from the floor). He led the team with six assists.
Davidson’s Conor Grace was the game’s high rebounder in both the Wildcats’ 73-50 loss to Seton Hall and their 88-54 ambushing at the hands of Duke. The Dublin junior took down five rebounds off both the offensive and defensive glass against the Hall. He scored 7 points, hitting 3 of 10 from the floor, including one of two from three-point range. Against Coach K’s crew, Grace collected 10 boards and threw in 9 points on 4-for-7 from the floor, including 1-for-1 on heaves. Davidson (5-7) then righted matters with a 75-64 win over Iona, in which Grace scored 8 points on 2-for-5 from the floor and 4-for-8 from the line, while grabbing 6 rebounds, before being whistled off the floor with five personal fouls.
Colin O’Reilly came off the bench to grab 8 rebounds in Teikyo Post’s 93-60 loss to Bryant. O’Reilly, a sophomore from Cork, scored two points. Post is 4-4.
Barry Kelleher scored four points on 2-for-7 from the field as Mt Aloysius (0-9) fell to La Roche, 86-80. The junior from Cork also managed 3 rebounds in 15 minutes.
Frostburg State’s Neil Campbell reeled in three rebounds in an 86-65 win over Eastern Mennonite. The junior from Limerick didn’t score as Frostburg
improved to 5-4.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Iona’s Michelle Fahy scored in double figures in the Gaels’ two losses on their West Coast holiday swing. The Galway senior was hampered by foul trouble in a 74-63 loss to Pacific. She did manage to score 14 points in 23 minutes of play, shooting 5-for-11 from the floor and 4-for-4 from the foul line. She also had four rebounds. Against San Francisco, Fahy was the game’s high scorer and accounted for nearly half her team’s offensive output. She posted 19 points in a 54-40 defeat. She made 8 of 15 field goal attempts and 3 of 4 free throws. Iona (3-7) fared no better in their return to the East Coast, losing to Dartmouth, 82-68. Fahy threw in 11 points on 4-for-14 shooting from the floor and 3-for-4 from the stripe. Her four assists were a team high.
Aine O’Dwyer was the high scorer in New Jersey Institute of Technology’s 68-49 victory over Georgian Court. O’Dwyer, a freshman from Killenaule, Co. Tipperary, rang up 18 points on 9-for-15 shooting from the floor. Her 8 rebounds led NJIT and she had 3 assists as well. O’Dwyer, a niece of former Irish soccer international Niall Quinn, was held to 7 points (3-for-8 from the floor, 1-for-1 from the line) in NJIT’s 67-59 win over Kutztown. She was high rebounder for her team with 9 boards. NJIT is now 4-5.
Monmouth’s Niamh Dwyer poured in 18 points in a 78-63 loss to George Mason. The sophomore from Thurles, Co. Tipperary, converted 5 of 11 field goal attempts, including one troika and 7 of 9 free throws. She also had 6 rebounds. Dwyer then paced Monmouth (4-5) with 18 points in a 59-38 loss to Auburn. She clicked on 6 of 15 from the floor. Her 8 rebounds also were a team high.
Quinnipiac’s Kim Fitzpatrick dished out five assists in a 76-54 loss to George Washington. The Waterford junior also notched two points on free throws and had three rebounds. The Bobcats fell to 5-3 with the loss.
Sacred Heart’s Kate Maher collected six rebounds in the Pioneers’ 75-62 loss to Brown. The Waterford senior did not score, having attempted only two field goals. Sacred Heart fell to 5-4.

SWIMMING
Florida’s women defeated Kentucky, 135-88, with Dublin senior Chantal Gibney anchoring the Gators’ “B” team in their 400-yard medley relay win. Gibney was also second in the 100-yard freestyle, which she swam in 51.80 against a winning time of 51.30, and third in the 200-yard freestyle, which she finished in 1:52.52 against a winning 1:49.85.
The Kentucky men lost to Florida, 133-96. The Wildcats’ Steven Manley, a sophomore from Dublin, scored points in both the 500- and 200-yard freestyle races. He was second in the latter event, finishing in 1:39.20 against a winning 1:38.96. He took third place in the 500-yard race with a 4:36.79 clocking. The race was won in 4:33.21. Kentucky freshman Mark Doyle, also from Dublin, contested the 200-yard race, in which he finished seventh in 1:46.69.
