IRISH EYES

A Callahan Garrity mystery

Kathy Hogan Trocheck

This is the eighth installment in Kathy Hogan Trocheck’s Callahan Garrity series. This mystery contains what readers have come to expect from Trocheck, witty dialogue, familiar Southern characters with sass and page-turning plotlines. This mystery has all the elements of good mystery: suspense, murder, deception and suicide, forcing the main character, Callahan Garrity, to confront issues of ethnic identity, betrayal and morality, and to question people she thought were her friends. And she must catch killers before she is the next victim. Harper Collins. 256 pp. $24.

While out with her friends, she meets North of Ireland native Aidan Ferrel, an attractive draftsman determined to win her. A RAKE OF REELS

John Nolan

A button accordionist since the age of 12, Nolan was the first American-born musician to win the senior All-Ireland championship. His second album, "A Rake of Reels," features jigs, hornpipes and a waltz, in addition to the aforementioned reels. Nolan includes several Billy McComiskey favorites on the album, such as "Controversial Reel," "Sleepless Nights" and "The Commodore," as well as the Turlough O’Carolan composition "Morgan Magan" and one of Nolan’s original numbers, "The Boogie Reel." The album is available from JN Records.

Live in the U.K.

Lenahan

Anyone who’s not already a fan of the Celtic/blues/rock combo Lenahan may find themselves converted after hearing the band’s new CD, "Houligans in Suits: Live in the U.K." Lively tunes include the opening track, "The Mind Reels," "Lanigan’s Ball/Hideaway," and "Jigs to the Wind," as well as the regg’-flavored "Islands in the Storm."
