Will MTV snub mean a world tour for U2?

February 16, 2011

By Staff Reporter

Rumors abound that, after getting blanked at the MTV Europe awards last month, the band is determined to reclaim their mojo by launching a limited-gig world tour next summer.
According to London’s Daily Mirror, the Irish band is planning to play just a handful of concerts next year — small, intimate gigs in their favorite cities around the world. The ticket-buying frenzy alone would be pure entertainment to watch — remember, this is the same band that sold 160,000 tickets to Slane Castle in just about four hours. Imagine what would happen if they announced a show in a place like NYC’s Roseland Ballroom.
Informed sources told the newspaper, “[U2] will go on the road for a few concerts next summer. It’s not going to be a huge tour, but there is going to be a select number of concerts at their favorite cities around the world.” Hey, start practicing your speed dialing now.
