Southbend 5, Gilligan’s 2

Southbend continued their recent good form with a brilliant performance against bottom of the table Gilligan’s. Southbend began very strongly led by midfielders Alison Lineen and Gillian Bennett. Then in a 15-minute period Southbend took charge with a three-goal burst.

The start of the second half wasn’t much better with Gilligan’s keeper Kathleen Lynett having to pick the ball out of the net two more times. Karen Campian was the goal scorer on both occasions. However, Gilligan’s reorganized themselves and Olivia Murphy got a goal.

Harps 1, Parlour 0

In the battle of the top two teams Harps got everything back on track with an entertaining win over Parlour Moms. Harps began the game with a fine display of open football. Chances were created for the Harps forwards, but Margaret Rozendale was superb in the Parlour defense. After 20 minutes Harps were awarded a penalty when Pauline Dillon was pushed in the box. Hilary Potkewitz stepped forward to take it but her shot went over the bar.

The Parlour, grateful for their luck, began to create some good chances for forwards Linda Rice and Wendy Hollender. Harps came back with some good wing play from Marie Flood. This paid off when one of her crosses resulted in Karen Shalvey scoring. In the second half, Parlour came back led by midfielder Mara Kaplan, but strong defense by Teresa Brink and Una Cronin along with keeper Norma McCarthy resulted in a good win for the Harps to leave them top of the table.

Beal Bocht 1, Fiona’s 0

Fiona’s hoping to consolidate a place in the top four couldn’t believe their luck when they conceded a last-minute goal. In the early going Fionas created chances for forward Ann Ryan but she was unlucky on two occasions. As Beal Bocht settled they began to create the better chances for Mary McEvoy and Sophia Harvey. Teresa O’Malley defended well with some good tackling for Fiona’s. Michele Balin for Beal Bocht had an outstanding game. The goal came when a shot by Jenine Rynne hit a low shot into the net.
