The freshman congressman, whose district covers Staten Island and parts of Brooklyn, said he read the honorees’ biographies on his way up from Washington. “I must say how impressed I was by your many diverse accomplishments.”
McMahon added that with achievement and success comes great responsibility. “To paraphrase St. Luke, to those who have been given much, much will be expected,” he said.
“This echoes the theme heard from our president on Tuesday night. You have all proven yourself capable and confident,” McMahon continued. “And many of you have contributed, volunteered, built and created. You have given back to your communities and this is something that you must continue to do.
“And you must inspire people to join in with you, because you never know how one little action by one man may change the world,” McMahon said.
