Biography: Fergus “Fergie” Carey was born on the north side of Dublin in the early sixties. Despite his obvious challenges of being a “north side yoke” he eked out a secondary education from the Christian Brothers. In the early eighties he got a job in Ireland – woo hoo. He ended up running Burgerland in O’Connell St. and after five years of that he fled to Houston TX.

Two weeks later he ended up in Philadelphia and has been there ever since. He landed a job bartending and after putting in his time he opened his own pub, Fergie’s Pub in 1994. He has since opened three more successful bars that are still up and running, including Monk’s Cafe, which was a front runner in the Belgian beer scene in America and has won many awards.

Fergie lives in center city Philadelphia with his family. He is a mainstay around town on his bicycle and is famous for remembering everybody’s name. Fergie is a big supporter of the live arts and sits on several theatre boards and is a great friend to The Philadelphia Fringe Festival. Fergie returns to Dublin several times a year to check in on the folks. This month, Fergie will be 25 years in America. Fergie describes himself as lucky. He would like to teach the world to sing!
