Paul Tormey

Current job: Regional Vice President and General Manager, The Fairmont Copley Plaza

Biography: Paul S. Tormey is general manager and regional vice president at The Fairmont Copley Plaza in Boston. In this position, he manages the operation of the historic Fairmont Copley Plaza, including leading the property through a more than $20 million renovation and restoration. In addition, he oversees operations for The Fairmont Hamilton Princess and Fairmont Southampton in Bermuda, Fairmont Battery Wharf in Boston and the legendary Plaza in New York.

Mr. Tormey brings more than 25 years of hotel experience to this position. He began his career in 1980 with Sheraton Hotels & Resorts and held several progressive positions with Sheraton including hotel manager at the Sheraton Boston Hotel and Towers, general manager of the Sheraton Stamford in Connecticut and interim general manager / hotel manager at the Sheraton New Orleans.

He joined Fairmont Hotels & Resorts in 1999 as hotel manager of the Plaza Hotel in New York. Following that position, he became general manager at The Fairmont Hamilton Princess, Bermuda in 2001. Before joining the Fairmont Copley Plaza, Mr. Tormey was general manager at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler in British Columbia. The Fairmont Chateau Whistler is rated the #1 ski resort in North America and #1 golf course resort in Canada.

Active in the local community, Tormey is on the Board of the Greater Boston Convention and Visitors Bureau and on the advisory board of the Shaw School of Hospitality at Boston University, where he has also been a guest speaker. He is also chairman of the board for Friends of Copley Square, which works with the city to maintain and beautify Copley Square. He is a graduate of Northeastern University.
