Job Description: As the Chief of the Public Corruption Unit for the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, I supervise a unit of prosecutors and investigators focused on combating fraud, bribery and theft by public officials on the federal, state and city levels. Prior to serving in the Public Corruption Unit, I was a member of the Terrorism and National Security Unit where I handled a variety of investigations and trials involving weapons trafficking, material support to foreign terrorist organizations, and piracy, among other offenses.

Why I chose this career: I chose to be an Assistant United States Attorney because it provides me with the opportunity to practice law in service of the public with commitment, integrity, and independence.

Proudest moment of my career: The proudest moment of my career is swearing to uphold the Constitution and the laws of the United States on my first day as an Assistant United States Attorney in the presence of my parents and my colleagues.

I celebrate my Irish heritage by: traveling to Ireland with my family and living my life in a manner that I hope would make my Irish-American grandfather proud.

Biography: Brendan McGuire was born in New York, New York. While he grew up in Manhattan, he traveled to the Throggs Neck section of the Bronx frequently for meals with his grandparents, which included several different Irish delicacies. Upon graduating from Regis High School where he currently serves as a member of the Board of Trustees, Brendan attended Williams College and then New York University Law School. Following graduation from law school, Brendan worked for two New York-based law firms and then clerked for a federal judge. Thereafter, he became a member of the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York where he has worked for the past seven years.
