John (Jack) Ryan

John (Jack) RyanJohn-(jack)-Ryan

Age: 63

Place of birth: Brooklyn, NY.

Where you live: Long Island, NY.

Job Description: Chief Assistant District Attorney, Queens County District Attorney’s Office. I’m responsible for the day to day operation of the office.

Why I chose this career: I can’t claim credit for the following statement “Get a job you love and you’ll never have to work another day in your life.” I first heard those words from the late Jim Fox then the Assistant Director-in- Charge of the New York Division of the FBI. Jim attributed the statement to his father and my guess is his

father didn’t invent it either. Regardless of who originally authored those words they sum up my love for my career. I have the privilege of telling every new Assistant District Attorney on their first day that their job is – in two words – “..to do justice.” There is no way to adequately describe the satisfaction of doing justice for the victim of a crime, the family of a crime victim or for those falsely accused of a crime.

Proudest moment of my career: I have been blessed with several. The moment that probably stands out the most is bringing the Tawana Brawley investigation to a just conclusion. What I am most proud of however is when I see an Assistant District Attorney who I helped train do justice on a case.

I celebrate my Irish heritage by: I celebrate my Irish heritage by being true to my core beliefs. I unfortunately have attended the funerals of far too many police officers and firefighters – many of Irish ancestry. I can remember being at one and being overwhelmed with the emotion of the realization of how much the Irish had contributed – and continue to contribute – to building this City and defending this city.

I celebrate my heritage by: I observe my heritage by honoring the memories of those gave their lives in service and doing my best to follow their path.
