OLDEST IRISH AMERICAN NEWSPAPER IN USA, ESTABLISHED IN 1928

Meghan Linehan

Meghan Linehan

New York City Council Speaker’s Office, traveling Deputy Chief-of-Staff

Age: 28

Place of Birth: New York City

Where you live: Manhattan

First Job: lunch counter on the beach

What it taught me: People skills. Standing between frazzled parents and an order of chicken fingers can be hazardous ground, especially at 14. Keeping the peace while explaining that I had in fact dropped the cheeseburger and would need 15 more minutes to complete the order and still managing to get a tip is a skill I continue to use today.

Status: Single

Three things people would be surprised to know about me:

1. My grandfather, Patrick Linehan, was on the New York selected Gaelic Football team in 1927, the first team to beat the All-Ireland champions.

2. While attending school at Trinity College in Hartford, CT, I played flanker for the Women’s Rugby Football Club.

3. When asked as a small child what I wanted to be when I grew up, my common answer was a giraffe.

Best advice you could give someone starting out: Try everything. It is much easier to figure out what you don’t want to do then to conjure the perfect job off the top of your head.

Once you stop learning or cease to be presented with new challenges, it’s time to move on.

As a born and raised New Yorker, Meghan Linehan is very humbled to be included in this group. Since she began traveling with Speaker Quinn in 2009, Meghan has literally had a front row seat to all facets of City government, learning daily from a truly exceptional teacher, continually discovering the hidden treasures of these five boroughs.

She also had the distinct privilege of accompanying the Speaker to Belfast and the place of their shared heritage, County Cork. Meghan would like to thank her parents, Jerry and Maureen, brother Sean, and the entire Linehan and Kerins clans for their unending love and support.
