OLDEST IRISH AMERICAN NEWSPAPER IN USA, ESTABLISHED IN 1928

Sylvie Barak

Editor, RCR Unplugged

Age: 28

Place of Birth: Belgium

Where you live: Mountain View, California

First Job: Press Liason officer

What it taught me: To stand and think on my feet, to think of the consequences of words and action, to maintain rigorous discipline and to feel compassion.

Status: Married

Three things people would be surprised to know about me:

1. I’m actually an Irish citizen, as well as Israeli and British

2. That I was in the Israeli Army

3. I like to play air guitar and pretend to sing into my hairbrush when no one is home/looking. Because I’m a mega nerd.

Best advice you could give someone starting out: Be persistent, never give up and don’t let anything or anyone stand in the way of what you’re trying to do. ‘Chutzpah’ (nerve) helps a lot too.

Sylvie Barak was born in Belgium to an Irish mother and Welsh father.

After graduating from the European School of Brussels she moved to Israel, joined the army and served in the press corps for two years, after which she read politics and history at tel Aviv university.

After a stint in the ministry of defense, Sylvie started working as a journalist for British technology tabloid the Inquirer where she quickly became news editor.

She now edits RCR Wireless and lives in Silicon Valley California while her husband completes his PhD at Stanford.
