Ahern encourages returnees

Ahern made the appeal in New York last week, when being interviewed by the Financial Times newspaper.
Ahern pointed out that Ireland has one of the highest levels of business start-ups in Europe — and that last year more than 15 percent of these were by returning emigrants.
“These companies are the future for Ireland and investment in these leading edge product and service firms is being made by investors in Ireland and overseas,” he said.
The taoiseach said he would “strongly encourage” expatriates to come home, suggesting they would enjoy a very different “business landscape” to the one they had left behind.
