A pair of Irish runners were winners at the New England Outdoor Track Championships in Boston recently.
Brown’s Neville Davey, a senior from County Mayo, was first in the 1,500-meter run, with a time of 3 minutes, 44.63 seconds.
Also, Providence sophomore Keith Kelly, from Drogheda, was fastest at 5,000 meters, timed in 14:26.02.
Brown, with 85 points, won the team championship over Massachusetts, with 74. Providence tied for 11th place with 18 points.
Harvard’s Doran falters

The first round of the NCAA tennis championships brought the curtain down on the season for a pair of Irish players. Harvard fell to Georgia in men’s play. Dublin sophomore John Doran of Harvard injured a quad muscle early in his match at third singles with Steve Baldas, but won the first set, 6-4. Doran’s effectiveness was comprised throughout the remainder of the match and he dropped the next two sets, 1-6, 0-6.
California’s women’s team was defeated by William & Mary, 5-3. Annette Oosters defeated Claire Curran, a Cal sophomore from Dublin, at fifth singles, 6-4, 0-6, 6-2.
