Dancing for dollars

February 16, 2011

By Staff Reporter

The dancer, who shot to fame with the original “Riverdance” and went on to create his own wildly popular shows, just pocketed a quarter of a billion dollars in exchange for a permanent “LOD” residency at the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas.
Now, just in case you were wondering, Michael himself won’t be appearing in the show, which opens this week. He’s still busy auditioning dancers for his upcoming extravaganza, which he promises will be his most amazing creation yet. So the $250 mil will cover a cast of talented unknows. But such is the power of Michael’s brand that the high rollers on the strip won’t even care.
A spokeman for The Venetian says that the hotel’s owners are confident in the show’s success.
” ‘Lord of the Dance’ will be seen by the 40 million vistors per year who pass through Las Vegas,” he said. Which means those kids will be hoofing day and night.
